BARBARA BARNEY-KNOX, MBA, MA, BSN, RN (CCHCS)
WACHSA PRESIDENT

I'm excited to announce the 2023 WACHSA conference is October 25-27 in Sacramento, California. This year we are expanding our conference to include a pre-conference day focusing on Women in Corrections. This day will be dedicated to learning and understanding the challenges that women face in a male-dominated work environment. We are celebrating the progress we've achieved in leadership, lifting our voices, and overcoming adversity.

Days two and three of the conference will include dynamic speakers in areas crucial to our healthcare success across all levels of corrections, from jails to prisons to probation and parole. In 2023 we aim to celebrate our progress and how far we have come in delivering health care. Speakers this year hail from national organizations, government agencies, jails, prisons, independent business owners, universities, and formerly incarcerated individuals. This is a conference you want to attend.

New to the conference this year is an award ceremony to celebrate individuals who give of themselves tirelessly to the justice-involved population. Our colleagues are developing programs and creating environments that value diversity, equity, and inclusion. We want to recognize and acknowledge their contribution to correctional healthcare.

I am elated and honored to assume the President's role at WACHSA. I know I have big shoes to fill, but I am up for the challenge, and with your help and support, WACHSA will continue to be a great alternative to the bigger correctional organizations. We are committed to providing a quality conference for a fraction of the cost.

I hope to hear from you on how we can better serve our members and maintain our slogan, "The Best in the West."
